Job description

Our client is leading Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, developing and delivering a new world-class metro railway system for Sydney. They are currently seeking a Senior Manager Audit & Assurance in relation to Health & Safety projects. This is an initial 6 month role based in the CBD.

The primary purpose of the role is to support the Principal Manager, Audit and Assurance and Deputy Executive Director Health & Safety (H&S) in executing Sydney Metro’s Annual Health & Safety Audit Plan in regard to H&S activities providing assurance and accurate and robust information that supports governance and decision making across all H&S programs.  

The role also supports the delivery teams in the monitoring of project H&S performance ensuring respective requirements and compliance obligations are met.

Key accountabilities
  • Live the NSW Public Sector and organisational values to achieve outstanding outcomes for the organisation and customers
  • Develop, manage and implement a risk-based H&S Audit Plan for the organisation and ensure audit process complies with Sydney Metro Audit procedure
  • Plan and scope H&S audit assignments effectively allocating audit resources, defining deadlines, ensuring a comprehensive and appropriate terms of reference is set for each assignment and that the schedule meets the needs of Executive Reporting on audit outcomes and trends to support governance process
  • Monitor the implementation and application of the Integrated Management System and Project Safety Management Plan (PSMP) across all projects and undertake targeted auditing of project teams and delivery contractors to ensure compliance, and identify non-compliance with the IMS / PSMP
  • Identify key risks to project objectives, evaluating and testing controls in place and identifying areas for improvement
  • Monitor the timely implementation of management actions recommended in the audit reports
  • Undertake research and analysis to ensure consistency and best practice of H&S disciplines in line with current trends, insights and standards
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for various governance committees/working groups and any other ad-hoc reports as required, confirming appropriateness of reporting and close out of identified issues from audits and that reporting obligations are met
  • Oversee external H&S audits (when appropriate) for SM to ensure appropriateness of process, that all SM reporting obligations are met and comply with government policy and requirements
Key challenges
  • Implementing a consistent, effective and collaborative auditing program across a mega program involving multiple contracts and stakeholders
  • Ensuring the audit program address identified key risks and controls
  • Ensuring the audit program provides accurate and robust information that supports governance and decision making for the wider Metro program
Key Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in developing and implementing Audit programs (including H&S Audit programs)
  • A thorough understanding of systems and risk based auditing
Essential requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting or equivalent demonstrated extensive industry experience
