You will be responsible for leading a skilled team of tradespeople and ensuring all processes are optimised for efficiency, quality, safety, and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Planning and Workflow Management
- Manage all aspects of daily workshop operations from material intake to final delivery.
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
- Coordinate closely with design, drafting, and project management teams to ensure production aligns with technical specifications.
- Monitor workflow and address bottlenecks or delays proactively.
- Leadership and Staff Management
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of cabinet makers, CNC operators, assemblers, and apprentices.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide training, and foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
- Oversee hiring and onboarding of workshop staff in collaboration with HR or management.
- Quality Assurance and Control
- Implement and maintain high-quality manufacturing standards across all joinery and furniture outputs.
- Conduct inspections and audits to ensure accuracy, finish quality, and compliance with drawings and client expectations.
- Resolve production issues swiftly and ensure continuous improvement in output quality.
- Equipment and Facility Oversight
- Ensure all machinery (including CNC routers, edge banders, panel saws, etc.) is maintained and operating efficiently.
- Liaise with maintenance providers and ensure all WHS protocols are followed.
- Manage procurement of tools, consumables, and workshop supplies in coordination with procurement or admin teams.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with WHS legislation.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings and ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols.
- Keep accurate records of incidents, maintenance, and compliance checks.
- Reporting and Administration
- Track job progress, labour hours, and material usage; report on productivity and project milestones.
- Support project costing by providing accurate estimates on labour and materials when required.
- Use internal software (e.g., production tracking or project management tools) to log updates and production status.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a production management role within a custom joinery, furniture, or fitout manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach and a focus on team development.
- In-depth understanding of joinery construction methods, materials, and workshop processes.
- Experience managing CNC-based workflows and interpreting technical drawings.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Solid knowledge of WHS regulations and commitment to workplace safety.
- Effective communicator with strong problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Trade qualification in Cabinet Making, Carpentry, or equivalent.
- Experience with lean manufacturing or production optimisation methodologies.
- Familiarity with ERP/project management software used in manufacturing environments.
