Job Overview:
A well-established joinery and interiors company based in NSW is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Drawer/Drafter to join the design and engineering team. This role is pivotal in translating design concepts into precise, production-ready technical drawings and 3D models using Pyther.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial furniture construction, materials, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to produce accurate and efficient documentation that supports both design intent and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Drafting & 3D Modelling
  • Create highly detailed 2D technical drawings and 3D models of commercial furniture including desks, cabinets, workstations, and custom joinery items.
  • Develop parametric models using Pyther, ensuring optimal structure, material use, and manufacturability.
  • Apply correct joinery methods, material specifications, hardware placement, and dimensions as per project and client requirements.
  1. Production-Ready Documentation
  • Generate cut lists, material takeoffs, assembly drawings, and CNC-ready files.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with internal manufacturing standards, Australian building codes, and client specifications.
  • Collaborate with CNC programmers or directly export compatible files for automated production workflows.
  1. Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with product designers, project managers, engineers, and production teams to interpret design intent and ensure manufacturability.
  • Engage in design reviews and offer insights to improve cost-efficiency, ease of manufacturing, and overall product quality.
  • Liaise with the workshop floor to resolve technical questions or adapt drawings to fit production constraints.
  1. Revision Management & Quality Assurance
  • Update and revise drawings based on stakeholder feedback or design changes.
  • Conduct self-checks and peer reviews to maintain quality control and accuracy across all documents and files.
  1. Software & File System Management
  • Organize and maintain drawing files, models, and specifications within Pyther and other PLM systems.
  • Stay current with Pyther updates, training opportunities, and industry best practices to continuously enhance workflow efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Pyther (parametric CAD/CAM software for furniture design).
  • Strong understanding of furniture construction methods, commercial joinery, and materials.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including CNC routing, laminating, edge banding, and hardware integration.
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings, shop drawings, and production documents with high accuracy.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to spot inconsistencies or inefficiencies in drawings before production.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Experience & Background:
  • Education or training in Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Drafting, or Manufacturing Technology.
  • Experience in designing custom or modular commercial furniture.
  • Familiarity with other software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cabinet Vision, or Microvellum.
  • Prior experience working in a bespoke joinery or commercial fitout environment is highly desirable.

What We Offer:
  • A collaborative and forward-thinking workplace focused on design excellence and craftsmanship.
  • Opportunity to work on diverse, high-end commercial projects.
  • A supportive team environment with access to state-of-the-art equipment and tools.
  • Ongoing training and professional development in the latest software and design methodologies.
