Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Policy Officer with an extensive background working on environmental projects. Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role. Knowledge of Government policy process is essential
  • 6 months contract opportunity with NSW State Government
  • Immediate start required
  • Located in Parramatta - WFH currently
The Client
Our client is the primary environmental regulator for New South Wales. They partner with businesses, the federal government, and the community to reduce pollution and waste, protect human health, and prevent degradation of the environment.

The primary purpose of the role
The Senior Policy Officer will provide strategic policy and legislative advice, coordination and undertake complex research and analysis for the development, coordination, implementation and review of policies and legislative frameworks. The role will need to manage and coordinate strategic policy development by preparing briefings and advice in response to Ministerial and Executive requests. A successful candidate will be able to analyse and review policies and regulatory frameworks and their impact on industries.
 
Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate allocated policy development, implementation and review projects, and initiatives to contribute to improved policy directions and outcomes
  • Provide timely, expert and accurate advice to enhance informed decision making across the Department about policy issues and initiatives
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative research and analysis to evaluate issues and formulate evidence-based options and recommendations to support policy and program development and implementation
  • Develop policy and contribute to ongoing policy monitoring and evaluation to assess the social and economic impacts of policy and to enhance consistent policy execution and quality service delivery
  • Prepare reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence to address identified issues and respond to requests for information
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of systems, policies, and procedures to enhance effective team operations
  • Balance complex and multiple policy issues, often subject to a high level of scrutiny, impacting the business in an environment with diverse stakeholder needs and conflicting interests and opinions, competing work priorities and time pressures
  • Assimilate information quickly and translate complex, technical information into easy to understand, plain English policy, reports and communication material
MUST HAVE:
  • Eligibility work full-time in Australia
  • Must have 5 years of experience of working in a similar role
  • Must have working knowledge of government policy process
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE IS HIGHLY DESIRABLE
