Department: Shopfitter / Cabinet Maker
Location: Kurnell, NSW
Rate: $20 Per Hour

Role Summary
We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Apprentice Shopfitter / Cabinet Maker to join a well-established architectural joinery and fit-out business. In this role you'll learn all aspects of bespoke joinery, from CAD-drawn shop drawings to CNC manufacturing, through to installation on commercial, retail, hospitality, and residential projects. You'll be mentored by experienced tradespeople and work on high-quality, custom joinery while developing your trade skills, technical knowledge, and practical experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the fabrication of joinery components in the workshop under guidance, including cabinets, panels, furniture, and other custom joinery.
  • Learn and operate workshop machinery (e.g., CNC machines, edgebanders, saws) safely under supervision.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings / shop drawings.
  • Help with the finishing, sanding, veneering, and polishing of timber and other materials.
  • Participate in site installations: measuring, transporting, assembling, and installing joinery on customer sites.
  • Support quality control processes and follow quality plans for each project.
  • Always Adhere to safety policies and SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements).
  • Maintain tools, workspace, and housekeeping standards in the factory and on-site.
  • Attend off-the-job training / TAFE as required for your apprenticeship certificate.
  • Assist in delivery preparation and logistics (loading, unloading, packing joinery).

Key Skills / Attributes
  • Strong eagerness to learn and develop in a hands-on trade.
  • Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Comfortable working in both a manufacturing workshop and on construction / client sites.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude: willingness to operate and learn machinery safely.
  • Good communication skills, able to take direction and work in a team environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed — trades apprenticeships require long-term dedication.
  • A positive attitude toward safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid right to work in Australia.
  • (Desirable) Previous experience working with wood, DIY, or trade background / school-based exposure.

Training & Qualification
  • You will be employed under a formal apprenticeship (e.g., Certificate III in Cabinet Making / Joinery or related qualification).
  • Off-the-job training (e.g., TAFE) will be required as part of the apprenticeship.
  • You will gain hands-on experience in both workshop manufacturing and installation on live projects.
  • Mentoring from experienced joiners, shopfitters, and tradespeople will be provided.

Benefits
  • Structured apprenticeship program with strong mentoring and career progression.
  • Exposure to premium, architectural-quality joinery projects (commercial, retail, hospitality, residential).
  • On-the-job training with modern CNC machinery.
  • Opportunities to progress into full tradesperson roles (shopfitter, cabinet maker, installer) after qualification.
  • Potential for employer to support or subsidise off-the-job TAFE / training costs.
  • Safe working environment with robust quality and safety frameworks.
  • Potential eligibility for government apprenticeship incentives (depending on role and business) for example, there may be federal incentives for cabinetmaking apprentices.
