Estimator - Commercial Carpentry & Construction
Location: Sutherland Shire, Greater Sydney
Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 Per Year + Super (DOE)
Work Type: Permanent & Full-Time
About the Opportunity
An established and reputable commercial carpentry and building contractor, operating across the Greater Sydney region, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their growing office team on a full-time basis. This company delivers a wide range of projects including commercial fitouts, structural carpentry, bespoke builds, and high-end residential works for Tier 1, 2 and 3 builders.
As an integral part of the estimating and project delivery team, you will be responsible for the accurate preparation of tenders, quotations, and cost plans across a diverse portfolio of construction and carpentry projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for an estimator who is motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a well-respected and fast-moving construction business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, quotations, and tender submissions for commercial, residential, and fit-out projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to identify scope, materials, and cost requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and maintain a database of trade rates.
- Assess project risks, exclusions, and opportunities to ensure competitive yet realistic submissions.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, site teams, and senior management to ensure budget accuracy and consistency.
- Prepare bills of quantities (BOQ), take-offs, and cost breakdowns.
- Participate in tender reviews, value engineering, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Monitor ongoing project costs and assist in post-tender negotiations where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in estimating systems, templates, and cost databases.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an estimating role within the construction or carpentry sector
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Proven ability to prepare and manage detailed cost estimates.
- Excellent knowledge of materials, trade pricing, and construction methodologies.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Relevant tertiary or trade qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building, or a related discipline (desirable)
- White Card and current driver's licence preferred.
