Job description

Our client is a statutory corporation created under the Waste Recycling and Processing Corporation (Authorised Transaction) Act 2010. The agency sits within Property and Development NSW, part of the NSW Department of Customer Service (DCS), and is subject to the control and direction of the Minister for Planning.

They are seeking to hire a temporary Environmental Field Scientist in the landfill and contaminated environmental monitoring team located across sites at Eastern Creek, Castlereagh, Thornleigh, Belrose and Lucas Heights.

The successful candidate will undertake field data collection and analysis both onsite and offsite as well as support WAMC’s new environmental monitoring database (EQUIS).

This is a hands-on role, requiring teamwork, reliability, initiative, and flexibility with working hours (i.e., early starts).

The Day to Day
  • Environmental monitoring of WAMC’s landfill sites and ESG’s contaminated land sites including sampling of groundwater, leachate, surface water, subsurface gas and landfill gas
  • Supporting the environmental monitoring crew in preparing equipment and resources to complete field calibration and maintenance runs.
  • Accurate Record keeping including field notes, photographs and GPS coordinate data
  • Backfilling WAMC’s new environmental database (EQUIS) with field data and lab reports.
  • Assistance with contractor inductions within WAMC’s online compliance environment and WHS portal (CAMMS)
  • Other project work as required.

  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks.
  • Strong team player, who is reliable and shows initiative.
  • Eye for detail and ability to perform data analytics from online databases
  • Physically fit with a desire to work in a hands-on environment.
  • Manual drivers’ licence
  • Good working knowledge of Health, safety and environment principles and practices.
  • Experience in the use of hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Good computer skills and ability to swim.
