Design Manager - Major Industrial Project

Location: Northern Suburbs, Perth
Contract Type: Full-time, Fixed-Term (12 months)
Salary: $170,000 - $250,000 + super

About the Role
 
This is a flagship industrial project involving major marine and civil upgrades. The work includes strengthening existing wharves, installing large-diameter steel piles, constructing heavy-duty concrete slabs and pavements, and preparing critical infrastructure to support long-term industrial operations.
 
As Design Manager, you will lead the design function from initial concept through to IFC documentation, ensuring all designs are practical, compliant, and cost-effective. You will oversee the selection and management of consultants, coordinate with construction teams to align design with methodology, program, and budget, and implement value engineering solutions to optimise outcomes. Your input will directly influence the success, quality, and efficiency of the project.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design from concept through to IFC documentation.
  • Manage consultant engagement, scope, and performance.
  • Chair and document design meetings, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Review and validate design documentation for accuracy and constructability.
  • Provide technical guidance and implement value engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with project delivery teams to integrate design with construction activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
About You

Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in design management for large-scale industrial or marine projects.
  • Proven track record managing projects up to $100M.
  • Proficiency in project management and design platforms (Procore, MS Project, Excel, Bluebeam).

  • Analytical and problem-solving ability for complex marine/civil works.
  • Experience managing multiple design packages under tight deadlines.
  • Solid knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and integration of construction methods.
