Job description

Our client is the leading transport agency in New South Wales and they are currently seeking Senior Project Officers - Valuation and Acquisitions with experience on commercial projects. These are initial 12 month contracts based at Parramatta.

These roles manage and undertake valuations and negotiations for the acquisition of property in line with the identified business needs and requirements of Transport for NSW projects and programs.

Key accountabilities
  • Undertaking and managing valuations and negotiations for property acquisition, including complex matters to enable timely access to property required for Transport for NSW works.
  • Undertaking activities in accordance with policy, guidelines and legislative requirements and prepare submissions for approval to ensure the maintenance of probity in acquisition processes.
  • Liaising with team members, surveyors and other property staff to ensure plans and documents of agreement reflect conditions of purchase, including works or property adjustments to be carried out.
  • Provide sound advice in relation to valuation and property acquisition to support the flow of information to Unit, Branch and the Transport for NSW agency.
  • Seeking advice from the Director Acquisitions Manager or Property Acquisitions Manager on more complex matters and provide timely advice to Project Management and teams as required to enable effective planning and decision making.
  • Assisting the Director in the supply of cost estimates and progress reports on acquisition
Key knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated broad experience in the valuation of real estate and a demonstrated knowledge of valuation for land acquisition purposes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in administering legislative and regulatory procedures pertaining to road corridor land, including the provisions of the Roads Act 1993, Transport Administration Act 1988, Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991, Native Title Act 1993, Local
  • Government Act 1993, Crown Lands Act 1989, Conveyancing Act 1919 and Real Property Act 1900.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the compulsory acquisition of land for government infrastructure purposes and statutory processes.
  • Possess a high level of experience and an understanding of land acquisition and the infrastructure project lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure effective and empathetic communications with internal and external parties in relation to highly complex and politically sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate dynamic information, undertake highly accurate and complex technical functions in a high volume of land acquisition transactions which requires to be undertaken in a timely manner, within budget, scope and quality to ensure projects achieves its land access requirements that meets their construction program and contractual obligations.
Essential requirements
Tertiary academic qualifications as a real estate valuer, which are recognised by the Australian Property Institute, or current practicing membership of any of the following professional bodies:
a) the Australian Valuers Institute (other than associate or student membership),
b) the Australian Property Institute (other than student or provisional membership), acquired in relation to
occupation as a valuer, or
c) the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as a chartered valuer.
