CGC Recruitment are exclusively partnered with Sydney Water as part of their permanent recruitment drive.

They are currently looking to appoint 2 x Safety Leads for the Major Projects and Programme Delivery Teams.

The Major Delivery Team covers projects in the Western Sydney Growth area. While the Programme Delivery Team covers projects from Sydney to Kiama.

These roles are hybrid working with a mix of office and site based work as well as WFH.

Purpose of the role
The Safety Lead is responsible for the delivery of safety support and assurance to specific projects and delivery partners during the delivery and commissioning phase of new assets. This includes providing expert advice and support in delivering the business units strategic objectives, plans, management systems objectives, mitigation of safety risks and hazards, the prevention of workplace injuries, the prevention of incidents and occurrences, regulatory compliance and the promotion of a safe culture. This role will work with and support the Safety Specialist during the conception to site establishment phase of new projects.

Accountabilities and deliverables
  • Demonstrate effective support, influence and drive in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with multiple internal/external stakeholders across Sydney Water.
  • Partnering with key stakeholders and use skill and judgement to influence to arrive at a desired outcome.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to improve operating and management practices across the business through understanding the work activities and leveraging existing knowledge.
  • Proactively and consistently challenge existing practice to identify ways of improving the quality and efficiency of work activities.
  • Gain database insights into performance and benchmark data to seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide expert support and advice to management, supervisors and staff to ensure compliance with all legislation requirements and codes of practice.
  • Maintain knowledge of the relevant legislation keeping abreast of any regulatory reform.
  • Provide safety support and advice to operational teams during handover/post commissioning of new assets.
  • Participate in the development of Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIDRA).
  • Review SWMS and Permits where required.
  • Monitor the implementation of Delivery Partners safety management systems.
  • Support the Safety Assurance Program.
  • Conduct inspections and leadership walks/observations to review work activities and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in Delivery Partner Safety in Design workshops (CHAIR 2/3, Hazops) and constructability reviews.
  • Proactively update Major Project teams and Delivery Partners of work activities and findings.
  • Participate in and support safety investigations by the Delivery Partners, and communicate any findings or lessons learnt across Sydney Water.
  • Ensure that all actions resulting from inspections, leadership walks/observations and investigations are raised as required and tracked for satisfactory completion.
Qualifications, licences, and certifications
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety or Diploma of Health & Safety
  • Formal and recognised lead auditor qualifications in safety
  • Formal and recognised safety investigations training (such as ICAM)
Experience and skills
  • Understanding of contract safety management.
  • Experience in heavy construction and large capital works projects
  • High level of interpersonal skills including team, relationship building & conflict resolution.
