The rail sector is vital to Australian business, carrying people and commodities on over 33,000km of track across the country. The sector has an estimated annual revenue of $22.79 billion, adding $8.77 billion to the Australian economy in 2019-20.

Rail engineering practices include delivering innovative, safe, and reliable solutions designed to enhance the efficiency of processes.

The opportunity

Our client is an international rail systems specialist.

Due to an internal promotion, the business was looking to add to its senior management team. They contacted CGC Recruitment for a Director of Operations role for their WA region.

Initially, they had looked to source this positive themselves but found they weren’t attracting the right calibre of candidates.

The solution

We engaged in a thorough discussion with our client on the role.

This included an internal organisational chart and discussion about current and upcoming projects.

We conducted a thorough analysis of the scope, to ensure we had all the available information required to go to market. 

The result

After a successful marketing campaign, we created a shortlist of suitable candidates who were very keen on discussing the position with the business.

The business shortlisted four final candidates who were engaged in a first-stage interview.

Two candidates proceeded to the second interview before a final offer was made and accepted.

Our approach

A thorough marketing strategy across our existing network, as well as conducting in-depth discussions with senior executives in the rail space, enabled us to provide a full shortlist for our client to interview suitable candidates.

Part of our candidate care involved discussions with our shortlisted candidates to go over requirements, the position description, and the organisation.

Our detailed interview preparation provides our candidates with confidence and ensures they are familiar with what is on offer.

We also assisted in negotiations to secure a package the chosen candidate was satisfied with.
