DECEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER

Back to Blogs

Welcome to the final CGC newsletter of 2014. It has been a productive month in CGC HQ where we have finished off our best quarter to date which is a great way to finish off a highly successful year for the business. CGC also celebrated Christmas this month with two separate events which were both great days, more information to follow below.

The NSW Construction market for the past 6 months has been in a very strong position across multiple sectors and we have seen a significant increase in staffing requirements from our clients in the Building, Design Engineering and Building Services areas. 2015 is shaping up to a very good year for all involved in the Construction industry.

Industry insight – MEP with CGC Senior Consultant, Evan Morgans:

Heading into 2015 the MEP team have been working flat out sourcing talent for what is an industry on the rise, after an up and down 2014.

The demand for contract staff has been steadily rising over the past 3 months as a direct result of firms having increased workload and lean teams. Contract staff help to overcome peaks in workload and reduce pressure on already busy teams.

We expect the upward trend in contract and permanent staffing requirements to continue as the many major projects set for 2015 begin to kick off and demand for talent continues to increase.
The core of this positive outlook stems from commitment to large scale infrastructure improvements by the NSW government, including the first stage of the Westconnex, $2.1 Billion Sydney Light Rail and a 600 million investment into hospitals in Sydney’s west.

Christmas Party 2

The large scale residential and healthcare markets are steadily returning to normal with the Northern Beaches Hospital already in the early stages of development. Several mid-tier building services consultancies are expanding successfully both interstate and overseas. Growth within the 2nd and 3rd tier consultancies continues and the top tier multidisciplinary consultancies seem to be seeing an increase in workload too.

All in all the outlook for 2015 is good so we can look forward to a very busy new year with plenty of opportunities within the building services industry.

CGC Social / Christmas Festivities

This year the clan at CGC were treated to, not one, but two Christmas functions.

On a Thursday evening, staff and their partners went out for some very fine dining at Flying Fish restaurant in Jones Bay Wharf. It was a great night of mingling with old friends and an opportunity for our newcomers to meet everyone’s ‘other half’.

The following day was our ‘strictly staff’ Christmas party. After a somewhat productive morning in the office, (given the night before’s antics!), we set off from Circular Quay in a water taxi bound for Elizabeth Bay. Our Office Manager, Glynis, was lucky enough to be brought up on a waterfront property with a saltwater pool and deck where we had a French chef cook a terrific BBQ overlooking the harbour.
Thanks goes to Raphael from French Fare Catering for a great job with the meats and salads! Billy, Steve, Glynis, Rory, Hopey and Azri showed off their diving prowess between courses whilst the others enjoyed the harbour view and kept their hairdo’s intact.

CGC Christmas Dinner

After lunch we boarded another water taxi which took us to a little beach in Rose Bay where we spent a sunny afternoon playing Frisbee and beach cricket. Team Rory conceded after scoring countless ‘fours’ which left it wide open to Team Azri who won by 6 runs.

We concluded the day playing pool in the pub (hotshots are Loomsey, Rory & Billy, closely followed by Jim, Nick and Hopey) after which the sensible ones among us went home and some others kicked on all evening.
