Before we launch into our monthly update, it’s with great pleasure we would like to introduce the latest arrival at CGC HQ, Azri Azlan, who joins our infrastructure division to focus on the civil construction market. Azri is a tertiary qualified Mechanical Engineer and joins the business with over 2 years of technical recruitment experience in Singapore where he focused on Geoscience roles within the Oil and Gas sector.
In this month’s newsletter we provide an overview of hiring activity in the local NSW market, take a close look at the local rail industry with our monthly specialist review and undertake our usual round up of all things CGC.
Over the last 4 weeks we have seen a noticeable increase in hiring intentions across all areas of the CGC business. In the construction sector overseas investment continues to drive activity in the residential sector whilst Contracts Administrators, Site Managers and Project Managers are in demand across all areas of the building market.
In the civil construction sector we have seen a rise in demand for engineering professionals with water experience and from specialist subcontractors who are gearing up to supply major projects. The consulting engineering market has seen an increase in activity at the tier one level, as our larger clients return to hiring mode after a period of consolidation. Demand for Revit drafting professionals in the MEP and Structural market continues to rise. Across the MEP space candidates with healthcare and large scale commercial experience are required across a range of projects in NSW, SA and Victoria.

This month we hear from CGC Director, Nick Curtis on the latest industry insights within the rail industry
Over the last 18 months we have witnessed difficult conditions within the local rail industry. Client side restructures, political changes, a tapering of investment within the mining sector and a lack of federal funding has led to many organisations putting on hold their growth plans and in some cases downsizing their rail divisions. However good news is on the horizon…
Whilst recent announcements on the North West Rail Link have grabbed many headlines there are a raft of projects on the horizon which will hopefully lead to improving conditions across all areas of the industry. Light Rail projects in Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra, Station upgrades across the Sydney metro area and technical projects such as ATP and PSU will offer opportunities for all disciplines with the rail sector. As projects are awarded we expect to see a demand across all areas, current hotspots are as follows:
Please contact Nick for further information.
Over the last 4 weeks the CGC office itself underwent some renovations as we had the builders in to expand our floor space. With the increasing demand for specialist recruitment services we are looking to expand our service offerings and are keen to here from specialist recruiters within the construction, infrastructure and architectural space.
For further information please contact David Cox.
Last Friday, the building team enjoyed a round of golf at the Woollahra Golf Club. In a tight contest David Hope emerged victorious by one shot on the last hole to take the win. It was a well-deserved victory for Dave who has spent every weekend of the last year on the course improving his handicap.
Dan was the happiest man in the office on Monday as Germany emerged victorious in the World Cup final and more importantly he claimed the spoils in the CGC sweepstake.
Elsewhere fitness levels are on the rise as the CGC team have ramped up preparations for next month’s City 2 Surf. Look out for the August newsletter for a roundup of the winners of what promises to be an exciting internal battle – James Loomes is the bookies early favourite just quietly.
See you next month.
