As we embark on a new year CGC recruitment would like to take the opportunity to look into our crystal ball and make our predictions for 2014!

We have seen the unemployment remain consistent around 5.7% for the whole of the last quarter of 2013 and we anticipate this figure to remain constant with a slight decrease in towards April and beyond.

At CGC we have seen a significant increase in demand for our services in the six months leading up to Christmas. This momentum has carried through into the New Year. We are anticipating a busy start to the year in NSW, WA and SA with activity in QLD and VIC expected to follow towards the middle of the calendar year.

A number of key projects nationally are expected to reach key phases throughout the year which will have a direct effect on the availability of staff, these include; Barangaroo (NSW), Sunshine Coast Hospital (QLD), Sydney Convention Centre (NSW), NRAH(SA), New Children’s Hospital (WA), North West Rail Link (NSW) & West Connex (NSW).

Should the demand for staff materialise as anticipated we also expect to see increased packages available in the market for candidates with the relevant project specific experience.

If you are interested in discussing opportunities on projects such as the ones above then please contact one of our specialist consultants by clicking on this link.

In a new monthly segment for 2014 we will focus our attentions on a specific vertical market and offer some targeted commentary for our readers, this month for CGC In focus we are looking at contract opportunities in the building sector. This month we hear from CGC’s very own Billy Versey:

“Since establishing a standalone contract appointment desk, CGC have seen an increasing demand for Foreman, Contract Administrators and Estimators across a wide variety of companies from newly established builders through to tier one multi-disciplinary contractor’s. Established builders are seeing the value of being able to bolster their existing talent pool with contract staff while small to medium size Builders are seeing the contract avenue as an excellent option to combat work flow, project overlap and sudden peaks in projects. We will also see the contract appointment demand increasing as NSW building market continues to build momentum and the talent pool decreases yet the demand is high. The transient nature of the contract workforce can also support regional projects in hard to fill locations; this allows builders to recruit staff for needs of a specific project without having to have to redeploy staff once the project has been completed”

If you are a client who would like to discuss the engagement of contract staff or a candidate who would be interested in contract opportunities then please contact Billy for a confidential discussion.
