Job description

The company
Our client is a state-wide Government agency within the Transport sector who operate across Sydney and NSW. They work supporting road maintenance and construction projects.

About the Team
The Regional and Outer Metropolitan division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.

The Opportunity
The Transport Planner role sits within the Development Services Unit in the Community and Place Branch, and supports a dedicated geographic portfolio in the South Region of NSW, coordinating and preparing responses to development applications that have potential impacts on state road infrastructure.

Some key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking precinct and place-based planning and development assessments, ensuring a customer-centric focus and appropriate engagement of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Meets statutory obligations and required timeframes in responding to development consent authorities
  • Ensure proposed precinct and place-based land use development does not compromise Transport network safety or efficiency
  • Ensure TfNSW requirements for land use plans and development consents are understood by the appropriate stakeholders, by liaising and negotiating internally within the branch and externally with other Government agencies (transport, environment and planning agencies), Council officers, and public and private organisations.
  • Work collaboratively across the branch regions to build a consistent approach to land use planning, assessment and precinct and place-based management within the Community and Place Branch.
About You
Critical thinking is key for the role. You need to have the ability to review multiple development applications, in a time critical environment and assess their transport impacts – this requires high level problem-solving, creativity, and a refusal to accept things at face value.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will need to be able to build rapport and develop strong stakeholder relations across multiple internal and external sources. You will need to leverage these relationships to seek the appropriate advice and information required to inform your decisions, as well as negotiate outcomes and overcome challenges.
The role will suit someone with a background in Transport Planning, Urban and Regional Planning or Town Planning experience, but we will also consider people from other backgrounds with relevant skills and experience.
The role supports a variety of work in the South Region of NSW – this encompasses an area from Wollongong to the Victorian border, out to Wagga and the Murray River region.  We have offices at a number of locations in the area and encourage people regionally based in New South Wales to apply as we have flexible working arrangements available.
