The company

Our client is a state-wide Government agency within the Transport sector who operate across Sydney and NSW. They work supporting road maintenance and construction projects.

Primary purpose of the role
The role provides high-quality professional advice and support within an area of technical speciality, supporting projects and programs and assisting in the development and implementation of strategy and policy to improve environmental outcomes, mitigate risks and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

This role will be working in the new M12 and M7 road infrastructure projects, an ASAP start and working either remotely or from the Parramatta office.
The position is 4 months initial duration with the view of an extension.

Key accountabilities
  • Promote and advocate contemporary environmental and sustainability practices across an area of speciality to drive industry best practice across the organization.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of practical and effective environmental strategies, guidelines, policies and procedures to facilitate the ongoing effective management and resolution of environmental matters.
  • Provide specialist advice to project and program staff on environmental responsibilities and, where necessary, identify training needs, contribute to the development of environmental programs and deliver environmental education to assist compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Support the agency and client areas understand and adapt to required changes in policy and process such as when key amendments are made to legislation or key guidelines or procedural requirements.
  • Manage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assist in the early identification and management of environmental risks and issues to facilitate the achievement of environmental best practice and risk minimisation across TfNSW.
  • Review and/or prepare comprehensive plans, reports and environmental assessment documentation relating to the area of technical speciality.
  • Demonstrate the five ways of leading behaviours to deliver organisational outcomes for our customers, our people and communities for the greater good.
Key challenges
  • Staying informed and effectively communicating in a timely manner to teams any changes to key legislation and supporting technical guidelines and procedures as required.
  • Providing advice and assistance regarding environmental obligations and requirements to a range of stakeholders who may, at times, have conflicting requirements.
  • Working effectively with agencies and representing TfNSW as a source of effective, innovative and best practice to deliver on Agency goals.
