The latest instalment of CGC's blog series, CGC Projects in Focus, will provide insight and commentary on Queen's Wharf Brisbane and the 2,000 jobs the project will create during the construction peak.
This is an ambitious resort development that will integrate residential apartments, luxury hotels and entertainment facilities to transform the Queen's Wharf district into a renowned location for leisure and entertainment.
Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is being delivered by, Destination Brisbane Consortium (DBC), a joint venture between The Star Entertainment Group, and Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium. DBC have been in consultation with Brisbane’s best architects, urban designers, heritage specialists, landscapers and town planners to design of a uniquely Queensland development that is truly world-class.
With the development projected to attract an additional 1.39 million visitors to Brisbane, Queen's Wharf will provide a wide range of ‘quintessentially Queensland’ experiences to enjoy, and significant economic benefits for the local and state economy.
Queen's Wharf will spread across 26 hectares – over 10% of Brisbane's CBD, which is the equivalent of 12 football fields - and is estimated to cost over $3.6 billion. The project has innovatively blended the restoration of existing heritage buildings with new builds. Nine heritage buildings will be restored once the project is completed and each restoration has been carefully planned to complement the original architecture of the building.
Queen's Wharf Brisbane will include:
Demolition of non-heritage buildings commenced in 2017 to make space for a new arc-shaped building for the resort. Due to the scale of Queen's Wharf Brisbane, it is hard to give an exact completion date, but the core of the project is expected to be finished and functional by 2022.
The opportunity
The size and scale of Queen’s Wharf Brisbane will provide significant jobs, training and supplier opportunities for Queenslanders - with construction workers reaching a peak of more than 2000 in 2021.
For construction, infrastructure and engineering professionals in Queensland, the Queen's Wharf development means plenty of work and employment opportunities. DBC have confirmed that to build Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, a wide range of roles will be required including:
