Job description

Our client is the leading transport agency in New South Wales and they are currently seeking a Safety Auditor with experience in Safety Management Systems auditing. This is a contract role until August 2023 based at Macquarie Park.

The role supports the assurance activities and systemic safety investigations throughout Transport and collaborates with industry partners and other service providers to manage the efficient and effective operation of the Health & Safety Assurance Framework.

Key accountabilities
  • Support the management of major and significant systemic safety investigations to ensure that systemic contributing factors are identified, organisation learning occurs and improvement opportunities are applied to Transport's Safety Management System.
  • Support the delivery of assurance activities to contribute to the development, implementation and operation of an effective Health and Safety Assurance (H&S) and Investigation, Rail Safety National Law and Heavy Vehicle National Frameworks, and to support Transport fulfilling its duty of care under the Work Health and Safety (WH&S) Act, Regulations and associated Codes of Practice, Standards and guidance material.
  • Conduct assurance activities, such as compliance, system and risk control assessments and audits, to support and improve the system retaining Transport health and safety risks.
  • Research and analyse latent and active issues, from a human factors and systems safety perspective, that contribute to unsafe outcomes, and recommend the implementation of critical corrective actions to assist in the continuous improvement of the Safety Management System.
  • Collect, collate, and analyse data and communicate the findings from assurance and investigation activities to H&S Branch personnel through briefings and other educational mediums.
  • Promote behaviours supportive of positive safety outcomes, including the reporting of incidents and hazards and the effective investigation and management of issues, to uphold industry best practice within the business.
  • Provide learning support across the broader Safety team to facilitate an uplift in risk assessment, mitigation and assurance capabilities across the directorate.
Key Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrated professional qualities, behaviours, knowledge and skills required for an auditor/audit team leader, as prescribed in AS/NZS ISO 19011:2014: Guidelines for auditing management systems.
Essential requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated, relevant, equivalent professional experience.
