Project Engineer

Job description

Project Engineer - Defects & Practical Completion | Western Sydney | 3-Month Contract
The Role

A well-regarded civil contractor is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join their team in Western Sydney on an immediate start basis. This is a 3-month contract focused on driving practical completion across a streetscape package, with the bulk of the role centred on defects management and close-out.
Works include footpaths, kerb and gutter, and broader streetscape finishes. You'll be the key point of contact for defect identification, rectification tracking, and sign-off, while managing the documentation and authority coordination required to get the project across the line cleanly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the defects register and drive rectification through to completion and sign-off
  • Coordinate with relevant authorities (council, Roads authority) for inspections, approvals, and practical completion milestones
  • Oversee close-out documentation including as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, and final submissions
  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure defect rectification is completed on programme
  • Support the Project Manager in all PC and DLP-related reporting and correspondence
About You
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Demonstrated experience on civil infrastructure projects, ideally roads, streetscape, or urban civil works
  • Solid understanding of the PC and defects process on head contractor-delivered projects
  • Confident dealing with councils and authorities on inspections and approval milestones
  • Organised, self-sufficient, and able to work at pace in a close-out environment
  • Full working rights in Australia
