Our client is a state Government organisation within the Transport sector who have recently identified an urgent need for a Geotechnical Engineer to work on a long-term contract basis. The primary purpose of the role is to conduct geotechnical investigations / inspections and prepare advice in relation to geotechnical issues facing Sydney Trains and clients to ensure the safety and reliability of rail operations is maintained.
 
You will be responsible conducting field inspections and investigation of problem sites by investigating, assessing and reporting on the geotechnical hazards in relation to the conditions. You will be additionally expected to advice on foundations for track, bridges and buildings, unstable cuttings, embankments and formations, and material suitability including the different techniques and precautions applicable for the project.
 
Selection Criteria:
 
·       Tertiary qualifications (Degree Level) in Civil Engineering and eligible for graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia
·       Approximately 4-5 year experience in the civil engineering discipline within a corporate public or private sector organisation, preferably in the geotechnical field
·       Practical experience in geotechnical engineering, including risk assessment with the ability to identifying geotechnical problems and determining appropriate solutions
·       Knowledge in geotechnical numerical methods and analysis, and the ability to produce technical reports
·       Demonstrated understanding and application of; risk assessment; design principles for hazard controls and requirements for consultation when making changes that affect safety
·       Working knowledge or awareness of relevant codes of practice, standards, and the regulatory rail and geotechnical engineering environment
