About the Role
A key client of ours is seeking an experienced, driven Estimating Manager to join and help shape the growth of our Queensland team.
In this dual-focused leadership role, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring our QLD estimating team while remaining active and hands-on in tendering major bids. Working in close partnership with the QLD General Manager, you will form a core part of the QLD Leadership Team, directly influencing our regional strategy, client engagement, conversion rates, and overall market expansion.

Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Sit on the QLD Leadership Team, working alongside the General Manager to set pipeline strategy, bid/no-bid criteria, and team targets.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and resource the local estimating team, establishing best practices in first-principles estimating, value engineering, and trade sourcing.
- Hands-on Estimating: Personally manage and deliver key complex tenders across D&C, Construct Only, and Negotiated frameworks.
- Subcontractor & Supplier Relations: Build and leverage strong local market networks across SEQ trade bases to ensure competitive, complete, and accurate pricing.
- Client Engagement: Participate in tender interviews, present value-add design/build alternatives, and represent your new employer professionally to key developers, project managers, and consultants.
- Cost Governance: Work closely with Commercial and Project Managers to ensure seamless handover from tender stage through to project delivery.
- Proven Track Record: Minimum of 8+ years of estimating experience within the Australian commercial construction, fitout, and refurbishment sectors, with prior experience in a lead or managerial capacity.
- Technical Expertise: Advanced capability in first-principles estimating, cost planning, trade package splitting, and reading complex D&C/fitout document packages.
- Commercial Mindset: Strong understanding of current Queensland market rates, subcontractor capacity, and procurement methodologies.
- Leadership Style: Collaborative, approachable, and hands-on—capable of running major tenders while developing younger estimators.
- Network & Systems: Strong trade subcontractor contacts across Southeast Queensland, alongside proficiency in industry-standard estimating software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft, or similar).
- Key Leadership Position: Direct line to the General Manager/Directors with a genuine seat at the decision-making table.
