Job description

Our client is the leading transport agency in New South Wales and they are currently seeking a Cost Controller experienced in Rail projects for a 6 month contract.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide timely and rigorous cost monitoring, analysis and forecasting to ensure sound application of cost control and accurate reporting across the relevant project or programs of projects within the I&P portfolio.

Key accountabilities
  • Implement and maintain the approved Cost Breakdown Structures
  • Manage and update the project cost forecasts for the current financial year and the Estimate at Completion for the project life cycle
  • Provide appropriate time phasing for the financial year and project life forecast in consultation with the project planners and other project performance and project team members as required
  • For awarded projects in delivery, integrate contractors’ cost data into the TfNSW project cost management systems and identify discrepancies
  • Support the administration of the project’s change control process
  • Ensure that the project cost data is captured accurately and is reflective of the current commercial and cost position of the project including statuses of approved changes, remaining contingency, risk forecast and profile, commitments, actual costs and cost to complete
  • Prepare and review monthly accruals and cost recoveries, reallocations and transfers and produce project accruals reports
  • Provide detailed regular and ad-hoc costs performance reports for the project performance team and the wider project team as requested
  • Liaise with TfNSW Group Finance and Investment and assist in the implementation of TfNSW financial and accounting procedures as required
Key Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrated extensive experience of cost controlling or equivalent management responsibility in a high-risk environment and understanding of risk management strategies and practice.
  • Ability to accurately respond to evolving contexts and to understand the complexities of the public operating context and able to negotiate transactions, relationships and make recommendations.
  • Ability to influence, coach and communicate risk management concepts and principles to people with limited knowledge in these areas.
