Welcome to the Winter issue of the newsletter, and what a month it has been! First up we’ll hear from Steve Morris with an Engineering Design Update. Stewart Armstrong will follow with an insight into CGC social, which features staff anniversaries, birthdays and the success of the Oxfam Trailwalker.

Engineering Design Update with Steve Morris

It has been well publicized that the built environment sector is going through a boom period and this is showing no signs of slowing down. Here at CGC, we are well placed to see this first-hand as we recruit into all stages of the industry; from the initial concept phase (architecture), the design phase (consulting engineers) to the civil contractor and building sectors and finally to facilities management once these projects are completed.

As I recruit specifically into engineering design consultancies, I am seeing an unprecedented level of demand for drafters, designer and engineers of all levels. This boom isn’t just limited to one area of the industry. Demand is high across transport, land development and building structures. Some projects that are keeping our clients busy are:

Transport:

Sydney Light Rail
WestConnex
Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link
NorthConnex
Sydney Metro

Land Development:

Here is a summary of a number of proposed areas for development in Sydney’s North West

Building Structures:
Northern Beaches Hospital
Crowne Casino Sydney
Numerous new stations associated with the Sydney Metro project
Expansion to Rouse Hill Town Centre

With the large volume of work available, we are seeing demand for staff from our clients of all sizes – from SME’s through to tier one global engineering design consultancies. If you feel that your medium to long term career goals aren’t being met in your current role then I’d be keen to have a confidential discussion with you so that I can strategically approach companies on your behalf that will meet your needs. CGC Social

As the business matures and grows wiser so too does its family. In the month of August, we celebrate a few more work anniversaries; Will Gardner completes his first full year, Matt Weighill his second and Glynis Macdonald her 4th year holding the business together; congratulations to you all!

Equally we welcome new members to the family: John Ainge joins us specialising in residential Housing bringing with him strong experience and knowledge to share. Welcome mate, great to have you on board.

Moving on to Birthdays; this month saw Jaymie Barry, Rory Todd, Dan Kundi, Trevor Brown and Hayley Lane advance another year. Happy birthday to you all, a few quiet drinks no doubt.

Earlier in the month CGC took part in the return soccer fixture against Actual Fitness Gym. After some rather ambitious ideas resulting in questionable execution, CGC once again took away the trophy; It was never in doubt. Great afternoon with excellent company and we are looking forward to the next encounter.

Last weekend 2 CGC Sydney teams took on the 50km Oxfam Trailwalker, doing our bit for a great cause. Without knowing exactly what to expect and quickly realising the enormity of the task ahead, muscles and minds were wavering, however all involved came through and crossed the line; some with wounds to tell the story. As Uncle Neil Armstrong once said, “Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man’s desire to understand”; 100km next year then guys?
