Brisbane Building Services Update with Evan Morgans

The building services market in Brisbane is definitely on the up, with an increase in workload within the commercial buildings market helping to offset the slight drop off within the medium to high rise residential area. In the first quarter on 2017 we won’t see a huge boom, but the 2nd quarter will give a strong indication of how the year will pan out.

Also with several large scale projects coming up and the larger global consultancies heavily involved in those, the small to medium consultancies will look to increase workload and take back market share from the larger end of town.

In the civil consulting is going along nicely with transport and infrastructure ramping up for what looks like being a very busy year in QLD as a whole. Drainage, bridges and roads / highways specialists are heavily in demand in both contract and permanent capacities.

The building structures market is stable, with most opportunities appearing within the tier 2 and 3 consultancies rather than the global tier one firms. With many large projects such as Queens Wharf, Story Bridge development and The Roma Street music venue in the pipeline it won’t be long before building structures is on the rise too.

All in all, a busy year ahead with Transport projects already setting the pace.

CGC Social

On the social scene, CGC Brisbane enjoyed their first official Golf day, which was staged at the picturesque Indooroopilly golf course.
Despite the blistering heat exceeding 30 degrees; the game was competitive, controversial, and a showcase of what can really happen in Golf when you are a rookie and think you can step up and drive the ball like Rory McIlroy.

The overall winner of the day – David Hope, due to his advanced scrambling techniques, and sheer brilliance from within 30 yards – well played David!
Joint runners up: Evan Morgans – ‘slow and steady’ and always reliable off the tee, and Lee Hayward – who spectacularly threw away a halfway lead, by falling victim to a few miss-placed shots (and golf balls) on the back 9!

A great day was had by all!
